David Barnard – Executive Director
David Barnard is the Executive Director of SANGONeT since June 2000. Before joining SANGONeT, he managed the Programme for Development Research (Prodder) at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) (1992-2000), establishing the Prodder Directory as the most comprehensive publication on development organisations in Africa. He has published and contributed to more than 30 development publications. His areas of expertise include the role of the international development and funding community in Southern Africa, the role of the NGO sector in Southern Africa, corporate citizenship and the involvement of the corporate sector in development issues, and the contribution of information and ICT in support of development processes. He is a Founding Member of the African Institute for Corporate Citizenship (AICC), an d an Advisory Board Member of the African Press Organisation. In the past he served as a Board Member of the Non-Profit Technology Network (N-Ten) and on the Meraka e-Skills Institute Reference Group and ithe Presidential National Commission on the Information Society for Development (PNC-ISD).
He completed the 2010 Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon (250km / six legs) in October 2010, and the 2011 Sahara Race (250km / six legs) in October 2011 as part of SANGONeT's "No Pain No Gain" fundraising campaign.
Neila Pillay - Finance Manager
Neila manages the finance department at SANGONeT. After obtaining her Diploma in Commerce, she worked in various financial organisations such as Swiss Re South Africa and Naspers. She brings in a number of years of experience from the corporate sector and her strengths include proactive financial management, identifying weaknesses and putting controls in place. She joined SANGONeT in September 2006.
Matthew de Gale, Programme Manager, M-Agriculture Services
Matthew has worked for the Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT) for the last four years. SANGONeT's mission is to support the effective use of ICTs in Southern African civil society organisations. Matthew heads up SANGONeT's new Mobiles in African Agriculture Programme working with organisations in Zambia and Kenya that support low-income farmers, designing and implementing mobile solutions that raise the incomes of small-holder farmers.
Previously he was the ICT Services Manager at SANGONeT, where he launched the SANGOTeCH donations platform that provides free hardware and software for non-profit organisations, built the Citizen Journalism in Africa social media training portal, and was responsible for redeveloping and rebranding SANGONeT's flagship media product, www.ngopulse.org .
Matthew co-organised the 2009 Social Media for NGOs conferences in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and has trained over 200 South and East African civil society organisations in the strategic use of new media tools.
Butjwana Seokoma – Information Coordinator
Butjwana updates the NGO Pulse portal and also compiles the NGO Pulse e-newsletter. His past experience includes working for the Live Africa Broadcasting Corporation, National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (Language Portal Project) as well as the Government Communication & Information System websites. He holds a BA degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Radio Production and a Web Design Certificate. He joined SANGONeT in January 2006.
Botswang manages SANGOTeCH which is an online hardware and software donations programme in partnership with Techsoup Global. The programme operates in over 30 Countries, Botswang manages South Africa, Botswana and Kenya and was also part of the implemantation team for the Egypt partner. His other responsibilities alongside Matthew de Gale is to maintain SANGONeT's IT infrastructure. Part of his previous responsibilities at SANGONeT was being the web administrator and updating content on clients website. His backround is in the IT sector with a specific focus in ICT4D. He holds various IT qualifications from University of Johannesburg (UJ), Boston City Campus (BCC), Torque IT, Faculty Training Institute (FTI) and New Horizons Computer Learning Centre. He Joined SANGONeT in mid 2005 as an intern.
Nonhlanhla Kunene - Support Officer
Nonhlanhla joined SANGONeT in August 2007 as the SANGOTeCH Programme Assistant. She is responsible for handling SANGOTeCH programme enquiries, data capturing and overall administration needs. Her past experience includes working for LoveLife as a Groundbreaker Peer Educator as well as an ambassador for the programme. While with LoveLife, she was trained as a facilitator and is currently working towards obtaining her Database Design and Implementation with UNISA.
Nicolle Beeby – Project Manager: NGO Pulse Solutions
With many enquiries for website development or redevelopment by many NGOs, as well as requests for training on social media, a new portfolio was introduced under the SANGONeT umbrella of services. This is titled NGO Pulse Solutions and project managed by Nicolle Beeby. She is also responsible for updating content on the NGO Pulse portal, as well as developing online training material for the Citizen Journalism Africa project.
Her past experience includes working at Women'sNet first as an intern and then as project officer. Nicolle's role at Women’sNet; involved conducting training, as well as developing training materials. Upon completion of projects she was involved with after action reviews and the writing up of reports. She also wrote for and edited the organisations weekly and quarterly newsletter. These were both print and online publications.
Nicolle also worked at Business Partners, as a Content Researcher - which involved managing the SME Toolkit, a website for small business owners. This role involved sourcing, writing and editing content for the website. She has a BA Degree in Journalism from the University of Johannesburg. Nicolle joined SANGONeT in October 2008.
Nomsa Nxumalo – Database Project Assistant
Nomsa joined SANGONeT in November 2006 as Database Project Assistant. She is responsible for handling Prodder Directory including, validating, database capturing and overall Prodder Desk administration enquiries. Her past experience includes working for Funda Community College as Personal Assistant and the South African National Anti-Discrimination Forum as Office Administrator. She holds a Secretarial Diploma and Office Administration. She is working towards completing her BA Communication.
Adam Mukendi - Project Officer, e-Community & Content Services
Adam Mukendi joined SANGONeT in 2009, works as the e-community and content services Project Officer. He worked as Project Coordinator for the Citizen Journalism Africa project co-managed by SANGONeT and HIVOS. He completed a BA degree in Law at the University of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. He also completed an Honours degree in Development Studies and holds a Certificate in New Media and Communications from the University of the Witwatersrand. He worked as a research assistant in academic researches focused on population and development. He worked with Noah Orphans, Africa Monitor and World Trade University Africa. Prior to joining SANGONeT, he worked in web and new media at Global Call Against Poverty
Dipuo Mahanyele – Receptionist
As SANGONeT’s receptionist, Dipuo is the first face you will see when visiting SANGONeT offices and also the voice you can expect to hear when calling the organisation. Her previous experience includes working at the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR) in an administratiove capacity department. Dipuo is currently studying towards a Diploma in PA and Administration and also bookkeeping. She joined SANGONeT in June 2006.
Emmah Ramadzulu – Office Assistant
Emmah helps around the office ensuring that all goes smoothly. She has been with SANGONeT since 2000. Emmah is responsible for ensuring that the office is always clean and presentable. She assists with the filing, faxing and general administrative work around the office. Emmah holds a Diploma in Office Administration and a has a computer certificate.
