Why Kiva?
Kiva lenders, like Peter, combat poverty daily by making small loans to borrowers around the world. We believe in fair access to affordable capital for people to improve their own lives.
Often only a relatively small amount of money stands in the way of Kiva borrowers and their dreams. Whether itâs a Kenyan farmer who needs $500 in order to double her grain production, or a young Bolivian woman who lacks the $1,500 tuition for nursing school, Kiva lenders provide a hand up to these and countless other borrowers.

Why Do People Kiva?
We each took time to explain why we use Kiva, but this is just a fraction of Kiva's many active users around the world.
How Does Kiva Work?
- Choose a borrower.
Your loan reaches borrowers via our Field Partners, who vet, distribute, and administer each loan. - Follow your loan.
Youâll get periodic updates about the progress of your loan, including repayments as they become available. - Do it all again!
Watch your free trial loan get repaid, then get inspired to lend again! When you do, repayments will be yours to keep.
About Microfinance
Safe, affordable capital to those in need helps people create a better life for themselves
The Story of a Kiva Loan
Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.
About Free Trials
What better way to try Kiva than to try it for free? Free trial loans are available while supplies last to the first users who join Kiva through this promotion and make a free trial loan.
These free trials will be financed by friends of Kiva, allowing the new lender to make one $25 loan free of charge. These free trial loans are disbursed to borrowers in the same way other loans are disbursed on Kiva. However, since the sponsor is funding the free trial loan, any repayment funds from the free trial loan will go back to the sponsor, not to the free trial lender. New lenders invited during the promotion may choose to use their own funds to make a loan, in which case repayments will go back to the lender.
Supplies of free trials are limited to one (1) per new user, and will be made available on a "first claimed" basis.
Read our terms of use.
