Thank you for your interest in the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (APP). As of 5 April 2011, the Partnership will formally conclude its joint work; a number of individual projects will continue and transition to other fora.
In the five years of its existence, the APP enhanced partnerships between the public and private sectors, promoted best practices and technologies across a range of key sectors, and deepened cooperation among its seven partner countries. Since the APP's 2006 launch, a number of partnerships have emerged which are undertaking public-private cooperation involving APP countries and other partners. The Partners believe the APP's activities may be further enhanced, expanded, and shared with a broader group of countries by incorporating them into the work of these other multilateral and bilateral efforts. The Partners look forward to continuing to work in the cooperative spirit of the APP to engage in ongoing work on clean development and climate.
The APP Task Forces held their last meetings during 2010 and 2011, and the Policy and Implementation Committee held its final session 5 April 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand. The work achieved through the Partnership was in great part due to the leading and coordinated efforts of the Task Force Chairs, Co-Chairs and members, as well as many key public and private sector project partners, to whom the Partnership is indebted. The final reports and presentations of the APP Task Forces are available on the website.
Details of individual ongoing projects can be found through the Project Status Update Forms located on the Project Rosters. The APP website will be maintained to share the legacy of the information gathered, and best practices and other information developed.
APP partners Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea, and the United States worked together and with private sector partners to meet goals for energy security, national air pollution reduction, and climate change in ways that promote sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction. The Partnership focused on expanding investment and trade in cleaner energy technologies, goods and services in key market sectors. The Partners approved eight public-private sector task forces covering.
The seven partner countries collectively account for more than half of the world's economy, population and energy use, and they produce about 65 percent of the world's coal, 62 percent of the world's cement, 52 percent of world's aluminium, and more than 60 percent of the world's steel.
The APP projects were located in Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea, and the United States, and were organized into eight sectoral Task Force groups.
