Dave gets new New Litter bin

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on May 22, 2012 at 12:20 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

After a discussion with residents of Wethersfield Road, Gosfield Road and Finchingfield Way, it was clear that litter was a problem in and around the Bus Stop in Gosfield Road.

I promised to raise this at the Neighbourhood Action Panel, and Council.

At the NAP meeting, I explained the bad litter problem, and the panel agreed. Thankfully the Council Official had a spare bin to fit.

The result is a tidy bus stop, and praise from Bus Company, residents and passers by

WELL DONE NAP

Calling for action on local footpath

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on May 16, 2012 at 3:25 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

[i-footpath]

I have just written for action on the well used footpath leading from Monkwick Avenue to John Mace Road etc within Solus Estate

This footpath is used by lots of people to get to shops, to and from school, and to get to the bus stop in Monkwick Avenue

I have called for some chippings to raise the level so that we can walk through without getting muddy feet, or indeed getting muddy feet on the dogs who are walked here.

The rainy weather has caused this, but with more rain predicted, the problem needs a solution

Watch this space as I negotiate some action on this

Election 2012

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on May 4, 2012 at 3:30 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

I am pleased to report that my colleague Cllr Kim Naish was re elected to Council with the following result

LAB --- (KIM NAISH) TOP OF THE POLL AT 1044

TORY 192

UKIP 219

LIB DEM 286

GREEN 52

That is a great result

This is despite a bad letter campaign by the "also ran" libs who tried to confuse people about myself, trying to falsley state I was standing down --- AS IF !!! BREATH WILL LEAVE MY BODY FIRST...

interesting the Tory vote was split by the UKIP

Well done Kim in getting the support of the brilliant people of Berchurch

Kim and I will continue to push for pot hole repairs, road safety, litter clearing and all the issues dear to the hearts of our residents

Workers Memorial Day 28th April 2012

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on April 28, 2012 at 11:05 AM [i-Comments] comments (0)

[i-link]

28th April is Workers Memorial day.

So, whats it about?

Well its an international day to remember the workers over the years who has lost their lives or have been adversely affected at work. It is also to remember the families of workers who are affected by accidents and health.

Health and Safety is inmportant to make sure workers come home work safe and well.

I was present at the 2 minutes silence to commerate and remember all those down the ages, and to remind ourselves to make sure we stay safe in the future. We owe it to our families

Berechurch Road /Mersea Road and others

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on April 27, 2012 at 6:15 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

I have highlighted the new development in Mersea road as needing a new traffic island to cross safely, also the poor road surface where drains and cables have been installed. we have enough pot holes without creating more

The campaign continues to have Berechurch Road re surfaced.. I highlighted today the risk to bikers of the pot holes there

Play Park damage - call to assist us protect the area

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on April 1, 2012 at 3:00 AM [i-Comments] comments (0)

[i-saturday play park]

Help needed to protect our facilities

Thursday and Friday night (30th and 31st March) saw some mindless people smashing glass in the play area of School Road. This is dangerous and must stop. No one minds anyone using the play area, but drinkers smashing bottles just for fun is cretinous.

Not only that, but the people who did the damage left un safe electric cables after they damaged the CCTV feed in the area.

I feel the young of the area will not want to loose the Youth Shelter, and play area, so I am calling for a YOUTH FORUM in the Scout centre on 11th april 5pm til 6 pm to talk and engage with young people about what we can do together to protect the area and its facilities

Berechurch Road --- a pot hole ridden disgrace

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on March 29, 2012 at 4:00 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

[i-P3181041]

The Berechurch Road remains in our opinion the worst road in Colchester, and thats saying something.

In the past fortnight we have called for repairs again, after a constituent damaged his car in a deep pot hole.

His car had tyre, wheel, and bodywork damage, and he was appalled at the delay in renewing this surface

I will keep reporting the road and poor third world state, all down to the Lib Dem supported Tories not releasing the funds needed to do the work..

Its a disgrace.......

Your Councillors - insisting on better service !

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on February 25, 2012 at 11:20 AM [i-Comments] comments (0)

After some flats in Solus Estate - (John Mace etc etc) did not have a collection for 3 weeks (Yes 3 weeks) Councillor Dave Harris negotiated an urgent pick up.

This was not good service, and residents deserve much better....

To its credit the council did respond (but it took 30 hours to do the pick up)

I urge all residents to ring or e mail me if they have a missed rubbish collection  dave_harris3@msn.com

Fed up with Pot Holes.....

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on February 16, 2012 at 4:05 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

As the snow clears, there is more surface defects, and pot holes in the road.

Its a real disgrace that we have to put up with 3rd world type roads.  The cuts are really affecting our transport network..

Dave working with community payback team snow clearing

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on February 12, 2012 at 9:15 AM [i-Comments] comments (1)

With so much snow left, and with the falling temperatures making icy paths, I asked Probation payback to clear some paths.

The team came and cleared lots and lots, and made our paths safer for all

WELL DONE THE PAYBACK SERVICE, a pleasure to work with you !!

Berechurch Road - Path problems

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on February 6, 2012 at 6:50 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

Essex County Council just will not listen

Despite several calls for a site meeting on Berechurch Road paths, the County Council refuse to come and see the problem

Its bad enough for pedestrians, but even worse for Mobility Scooters. (The area just past the Berechurch Road Shops near the new development, eg Near to 22 Berechurch Road)

The defect has been reported by myself several times, and I recently met with a local man who has problems getting over the area without one of the wheels going in the air.

[i-berechurch1 road]

I will keep on til I get the repair done.

Cllr Dave Harris

Snow - snow - snow

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on February 5, 2012 at 7:20 AM [i-Comments] comments (0)

The snow is here, and its fun for some who take advantage to enjoy sledges and snow balling,

How ever it means lots of people who are disabled, infirm, or elderly are trapped indoors.

If you know of anyone in Berechurch estates who need basics then give me a ring on 07816168858, so I can assist.

If you have relations or neighbours who are vulnerable then please check to see if they are OK

School Road safety campaign

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on January 27, 2012 at 4:20 PM [i-Comments] comments (2)

Reference the the little girl who was hurt within School Road in December 2011.

She met me on site with her family.

She backed the petition to have amendments made to improve safety.

We want

  • Crossing patrol re instated
  • Extra parking away from School road
  • Extra safety barriers at School Road roundabout
  • Extra extended zig zag yellow lines
  • A footpath crossing to Queen Elizabeth Way

all this to seperate young people from cars.

All cars go slow, but due to parking it is always a risk on these narrow roads

Sign our petition - call 01206 545889 - or 07816168858 or visit Face Book -- Dave Harris

Success for our campaign for extra facilites

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on January 8, 2012 at 4:55 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

After campaigning for a extra dog mess bin in Berechurch Hall Road, we can report a sucess. Cllr Dave Harris requested a bin and was backed by Cllr Kim Naish

The Neighbourhood action panel paid for the bin, and after Kim and Dave viewed the bin on New Year, so its on our latest newsletter for 2012 (the only REGULAR newsletter in Berechurch')

Then after a request for a litter bin in Berechurch Hall Road bus stop at the entrance to Solus Estate we can also report this is now in place.

We are pleased to start the year off on a postive note...

Happy New Year !

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on December 30, 2011 at 3:30 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

Its nearly 2012, and I wanted to use this moment to wish everyone a really prosperous and healthy new year.

Its been a busy year for me...

Lots of litter picks - Hundreds and hundreds of bits of casework - problems solved , but lots of problems still to campaign for.

I was so proud in May 2011 to be re elected with a massively increased majority to represent my friends and neighbours. But more than that I was humbled to be chosen by so many of the voters of Berechurch.

so have a great new year, and join me in trying to get the area better, and more caring to all.

Monkwick Youth Club treat pensioners to Xmas

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on December 20, 2011 at 10:20 AM [i-Comments] comments (0)

On 20th December, led by the Youth leaders from Integrated Youth service, the Monkwick youth club planned, created, and put on a 3 course Christmas dinner for pensioners in the area.

This was a brilliant excercise in cross generation communication, and with help from Youth Service, the young people did the area proud with their skills. A dinner, some Bingo, and a Xmas quiz all made the experience.

As one of the guests, I was so very proud of the young people and their caring attitude.

Thank you so much young people of the area

CHRISTMAS CARDS ON THE WAY TO ALL HOUSES IN BERECHURCH

A very warm festive greeting to all my friends, neighbours and constituents for Christmas and a happy new year.

Together with Cllr Kim Naish and the rest of our Labour team, I have been hand delivering Christmas cards to you all.

The card has a nice calendar on the rear, a great picture of a snow man, and some useful phone numbers for the agencies around Colchester.

I wish you all a prosperous new year, regardless of class, creed or political persuasion

Cleaning up the field off School Road

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on November 23, 2011 at 4:15 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

The last couple of Sundays I have been working with Community Payback team, and cutting down leaning trees and tiding up the area off School road.  Thomas Lord Audley wanted the work done, and with TLA staff, and probation service, its making a huge difference

Youth of the area get a celebration of their achievements...

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on November 1, 2011 at 6:15 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

Tonight I attended the youth celebration at the Town House, youth centre.

I praised the youth of Monkwick and Berechurch for the projects they have done over the past year.

Parents of the young people should be rightly proud of the work and commitment of our young people.

So many compliments from the community to the Youth Club members...

I repeat my words I said tonight from the rostrum, WELL DONE TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE, I AM REALLY PROUD OF YOUR EFFORTS...

CUT BACK AT SCHOOL ROAD....

link[i-link] Posted by councillordaveharris on October 14, 2011 at 3:55 PM [i-Comments] comments (0)

I have been writing to and fro to Essex County Council over the overgrown brambles and nettles along side School Road.

It was very poor, and the County Council said that it was not their reponsiblity.

I found that strange and made the point that if a child steps in the road because of the brambles and nettles, then I would be devastated if they were hurt by a car.

They eventually agreed to cut the verges back, but, after waiting 2 weeks, I went and did it myself with my hedge trimmer, as I couldnt let our children run the risk...

The verge is now cut back, and swept...

Thats cut backs for you !
