Happy

A little light music
There are many folk who hold that we human beings are little more than clever meat: purposeless, unintended creatures all alone in the Universe who have evolved the powers of reason and language but whose sole functions as organisms are to avoid pain as long as it takes to pass on their genes to the next generation. Some of you will no doubt hold this opinion and I wish you all a happy Easter Day too.
But somehow I can’t bring myself to believe that the person who wrote this awesome piece of music (after the stupid advertisement!) was just a fancy chunk of mutton adopting airs and graces above his station.

Let’s use more nuts to crack some other nuts #2341
House of Dumb features thoughtful criticism of a man who finds it hard to join the herd when that herd gets all down-their-noses at an everyday misunderstood matricide.
Well…taking a position where you face down the Guardian, the Daily Mail and the Mirror all at once either demonstrates the kind of raw courage the SAS look for in their recruits or here’s a man who doesn’t mind cooking his own light suppers for a week or two. Oh, and the suburbs might twitch their lace curtains at him for a while as well. In the chip shops and kebab houses of the inner city, however, I suspect he’ll lose very few of his devoted friends.
“The belief that children are "devils", that they are feral beasts who if they aren't smashing up bus-stops are murdering their mothers, reveals far more about adult fears than it does about actual young people.”
Isn’t the definition of the liberal as someone who accepts the paleontological history of our species - that we’re essentially meat-eating and foraging pack animals from the scrublands of East Africa - yet who denies the possibility that the aggressiveness and potential for violence that for a couple of million years kept blunt-toothed, slow-moving, clawless omnivores alive and flourishing amongst various ambush predators from the savannas to the Arctic Circle did anything other than disappear amongst everyone (except for a few throwbacks) the moment that the ink was dry on first edition of The Social Contract? Really, Mr. O’Neill, where did all those instincts and hormones and genes to mount a counter-attack against lions or polar bears disappear to in the era When Periwigs Ruled the Earth?
For the most part, children who kill are unstable not evil; they are profoundly confused rather than consciously cruel. Yes, they sadly must be removed from society, but ideally for help and education, not in order to be punished or to suffer public ridicule.
What sort of therapy cures you of human nature, I wonder?
I confess, too, that I suspect him of a little bit of logical confusion when he asserts that removing a child from society (by putting him in prison) holds him up to public ridicule - unless they’re filming a reality TV series down at Tofu Borstal for Boys Who Want to be Girls, or wherever.
The lib meme of that old violence thing; it’s just so everything up until 1762 just keeps on being funny:
It was police and judges, for example, who took the disastrous decision to try the 10-year-old killers of James Bulger for murder in an adult court, riding roughshod over the idea that children under 14 were doli incapax – incapable of crime. It was the judge in that case who decided to release the names and photos of the Bulger killers, because they had committed an act "of unparalleled evil and barbarity". It was a commentator for the erudite Times who said that those two clearly very disturbed 10-year-olds were a "reminder of humanity’s most ancient and bestial instincts".
“…humanity’s most ancient and bestial instincts". And there’s the rub. In Libworld, humanity is a social construct and there are no “ancient instincts”: It’s all superstructure that functions to keep profit margins high and the toffs supping Champers at the Ritz.
Or something.
But seriously folks; what does O’Neill expect The Man to do nowadays? The, ahem, authorities haven’t got the will or the understanding to uphold whatever has worked since Adam was a lad (partly because they reject any book with Adam in it); including the sometimes-reasonable doli incapax. They’ve lost any sense of proportion and discrimination because they’ve thrown wisdom out along with God knows how many babies with the bathwater of all that excessive deference to authority that they wanted to eliminate in the 1960s. In so doing they ditched all the successful socializing (moralizing!) mechanisms upheld by the legitimacy conferred by ancient custom and tradition throughout history down to what every schoolboy knows - especially not to slaughter Mummy and little kids. And they did it on purpose. The permissive society trashed millennia-old mechanisms for rearing children not to be sociopaths by breaking the connection (until then held to be central to Western morality) between a moral choice and its consequences.
It acid-bathed the family by easy divorce (mea culpa, my friends: I can’t type this part so easily because of this beam right here); dissolving the moral and economic links between sexual intercourse, child-rearing and fatherhood via child-related welfare payments; and it infantilized parents themselves through an education system that never finds fault or points the finger of blame at any individual or corrects misbehaviour.
Certainly, it’s foolish to treat those too young to understand cause and effect and moral responsibility quite as if they were Jack the Ripper, and we can hope though not expect that imprisoned children might one day have their immorality replaced with morality, but the statist ‘youth’ snuck into the woodpile in the first place thanks to O’Neill’s pals’ mindset.
How else do you explain this piece Hobbesian set a sledgehammer to crack another sledge-hammer statist war-of-all-the-bureaucracies-against-all-the-other-bureaucracies?:
Schools which fail to teach pupils to read and write should be fined, an independent panel investigating the causes of last year's riots has said.
About a fifth of school leavers have the literacy skills of an 11-year-old or younger, leaving many with no stake in society and no reason to stay out of trouble, the riots communities and victims panel said.
Introducing fines, which would then be used to help bring children up to the required standards, would help ensure the risk of future riots on the scale seen last August was "significantly reduced", it said.
Got that?
Western morality = bad.
Individual responsibility = bad.
Nuclear family = bad.
Blame for and punishment of misbehaviour = bad.
Parental choice in education = bad.
Bureaucracies intended to replace anything nasty with tea and sympathy and understanding = good.
Riots = embarrassing after fifty years of social liberalism.
Solution = let’s punish our own libtard schools by using more dictatorial government power!
Letting parents take their children away from the violent jungles that so many inner city comprehensives have become by allowing other, non-tropical rainforest schools to exist just isn’t on the menu.
The panel also identified "500,000 forgotten families", citing poor parenting, a sense of hopelessness among young people, no clear path to work, reoffending and a lack of confidence in the police as key reasons behind the riots.
Say, does anyone out there know how reoffending can happen at all in our enlightened world of ASBOs and suspended sentences and community service orders?
Anyone? Anyone at all?
So what actually works? Well, how about more of the same?
Councils across London are working hard to build strong and resilient communities but the key to success lies in more joined-up services with responsibilities and funding available to make it work.Responding to today’s report by the Riots Communities and Victims Panel, London Councils – the body representing the capital’s 33 local authorities – said that boroughs need more freedom to ensure there is more sharing of information and funding for local schemes such as projects to tackle youth re-offending and early intervention work.
Brilliant. What could possibly go wrong?

A sense of proportion
The most senior ethnic minority serviceman in the Armed Forces says the military must work harder at recruiting people from diverse backgrounds.
Rear Admiral Amjad Hussain says a lack of Asian and black role models is making it more difficult to get minorities to sign up.
He's been in the Royal Navy for nearly 40 years and insists that it must continue trying to tap into those hard to reach communities.
The government wants to increase that figure to reflect multicultural Britain, but admits it's struggling.
I’d say it’s succeeding: it’s getting recruits that are in some way loyal to Britain, which reflects how a large enough proportion of the population regard our country and armed forces.Wants some evidence for that?
Try this:
But in Slough, where the council estimates almost 50% of the population to be ethnic minorities, young Asians tell us joining the forces isn't an option.
Yasar Khan is a 26-year-old Muslim. I am unemployed but I wouldn't join the Army no way. He said: "If we go to Afghanistan to fight against the Muslims we do feel like we're betraying our own people. "I do consider myself to be British but I am a Muslim first and foremost".
Vakash Aktar, 19, is also a Muslim: "I am unemployed but I wouldn't join the Army, no way," he said.
"I know the money's great but I wouldn't join, not while they are killing our Muslims."
And as with the bullet, so with the ballot:
George Galloway, the leading figure in Respect, has grabbed a remarkable victory in the Bradford West byelection, claiming that "By the grace of God, we have won the most sensational victory in British political history".
It appeared that the seat's Muslim community had decamped from Labour en masse to Galloway's call for an immediate British troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and a fightback against the job crisis.
On a turnout of 50.78%, Labour's shellshocked candidate Imran Hussein was crushed by a 36.59% swing from Labour to Respect that saw Galloway take the seat with a majority of 10,140.
Just as providing funds at St. Patrick's Day parties or merely neglecting to help the Special Branch as is hunted the IRA from the 1970’s onwards was a feature of a not-microscopic minority of Irish residents of mainland Britain, ethnic/religious loyalties once again threaten a belief in the system, the Union, and a commitment to our society at large. Why should they rush to violence when significant political power over the rest of us is here now, and will only grow over the generations?
But please feel free to reassure me that Islam’s just a religion that helps folk get by in life and doesn’t harm the rest of society in any way.

Pakis, Polacks, planks and EMPs
Readers will be aware by now that I’m by no means politically correct in matters of race and nationality; in fact I’m so ethnically aware that my vocabulary contains fifty different words for eskimo. However, I was not aware until today that followers of the Religion of Peace and other overseas visitors seeking our taxpayers’ generous hospitality were also equipped with preferential electromagnetic pulse phones that let them jump to the top of the telephone call queue at Job Centre Plus; fiendish Orientals that they are.
This is from Yahoo Local. Read ‘em and weep.

You are F***ING right there, this country makes me F***ING sick.
I can handle it when I’m accused of stirring up the Hateful Racist Legions of Hateful Haters: I’d not consider I was doing my job properly if our port-side pals didn’t mention the fact from time to time but - sweet mercy! – what are they teaching young bigots today?
A six year gap is a pretty representative timescale for people in Morecambe actually looking for work, by the way.
Picture from here.
Rigorous fact-checking and journalistic integrity comparable to the best of the BBC and New York Times here.
Sticks, stones, Tweets, Siberia…
Justice is not only being done (to death) in this country, but is also obscene to be done.
How about this for the legal system being worth every penny we pay for it?
I suppose this is the ultimate triumph of that Enlightenment motto that - like rather a large number of important Enlightenment notions - turns out to be have terms and conditions applying too; that The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword. Mere bone-breaking and arming oneself for gang war is just part of life’s rich pageant, but writing something nasty where other, er, trivia fans can read it; well, that’s fighting talk in these parts Mister.
Curiously, the libs are happy to give a pass to a century and a half of Marxists defaming business-owners and anyone who owns property above the level of, say, the rags, flat caps and clogs they stand up in as responsible for all the world’s evils. The culture of calling people ‘posh and ‘toffs’ and ‘bourgeois,’ or singing the cunts are still running the world , and the power that it brings to such folk was never going to cause any lasting harm or kill more than a hundred million people or so.
The upside is that, once the smoke from the mass graves of communism settled; not one posh person; kulak; suspect businessman or capitalist was able to tweet any racist remarks and so inspire a lynching is fifty or a hundred years’ time. So that’s okay. We’re saved.
And yet another political prisoner goes to jail for expressing an opinion. Seriously, how well do you think we’re doing in this country?

Once I put it down…
… I could not pick her up again.
I can’t wait to see how the multiculti libtards handle this, via Mark Steyn today.
Woman died after Muslim nurse refused to help as he was praying.
An elderly woman was left on the floor at a care home for up to ten minutes because a nurse was praying, an inquest heard.
Alzheimer's sufferer Dorothy Griffiths, 87, was found sitting down after staff heard a bang and a carer went to the office for help to lift her.
But agency nurse Abdul Bhutto, who was in charge, said they would have to wait.
Carer Zoe Shaw told the Sheffield hearing: "It took between five and ten minutes because he was praying upstairs in the office on his prayer mat. A staff member told me we had to wait for him to finish."
Now, it also states that it took another 4 hours for the ambulance to be called, and looking at the apparent sequence of events it seems that other people with doubts about the old lady’s health might have called an ambulance or other medical care, but didn’t. And we don’t know what Abdul Bhutto, who was in charge actually means in terms of real authority, line of command and so on. Perhaps other people are trying to concentrate collective guilt on only one individual who, fearing a racist backlash or stitch-up wisely did not attend court as requested. So perhaps it’s not quite as pure and juicy North Northwester anti-Islam kick as it seems at first.
But boil it down to a number of possibilities that exclude the one where the witness who turned up is lying her arse off. What do we have left?
A medical/care professional refused to attend a stricken patient because he was in the middle of his religious devotions. He wasn’t on the loo with dirty hands or attending another patient/resident or calming down someone in huge distress. He was facing Mecca and lying on a prayer mat voluntarily. On duty. If he was on a break, then why was it considered more urgent than attending a frail old woman lying on the floor, though in her case rather involuntarily?
Orthodox Jews and strict Christian Sabbatarians will travel, use electricity, and do other sanctioned actions on the holy day of the week to save a human life. There is a recognition that a loving God will allow some leeway in His followers’ religious observances when the sentient parts of His creation are in mortal danger. Why not this chap? Well, perhaps he’s an exceptional case, just like that huge army of unrepresentative minorities that give the rest of Islam a bad name and allow the racist Right to do whatever it is we do to funnel ever cheaper and more obedient labour into our capitalist masters’ factories, er, um, or something. As tiny minorities go, they must be in the Guinness Book of Records for international impact with a numbers-to-death ratio similar to that of ants’ bodyweight-to-burden.
The big argument that folk who want to silence those of us who do not accept the Disney version of Islam is that, well, yes some powerful people use Islam for their own (unspecified) ends such as, er, um, keeping hold of the oil and keep girls veiled to provide cheap labour or compliant comforters for said imported labour, but for most Muslims it’s a religion like all the rest of them in that it provides a measure of comfort, outlines the meaning of our existence here on earth, and helps us mark the passing of our lives as they proceed from birth to naming, to puberty, adulthood, parenthood, maturity and death. Somehow they, like the rest of us, manage to fit a little fun and work in along the way but that’s not the point.
All notions that Islam is somehow disdainful of human life; let alone harsh, xenophobic, lacking in empathy and regard for outsiders is either a Western fiction or confined wholly to some kind of extremist sect that only a few ever join. Look, they say, most of our Muslim neighbours in Britain, America, etc, are okay; just like us, if a lot more sober. What’s all the fuss about?
Well, how about a non-violent Muslim (who will almost certainly be shown to have no connections with terrorism) preferring the outward show of his faith and deciding not to skip it for a few minutes until he had had done his actual job, for which he was paid, because if prayer is better than sleep, it also seems it’s so much better than pretty much anything else and certainly that it’s okay to delay a potentially life-saving duty in order to carry on with it.
If I think somebody’s dying or in real distress, I can put my dad’s Bible down and go and help. Hell, I put it down all day to do my wicked bit to keep the Welfare State going, because that’s what I’m paid for. The same works for the Torah, I am told in so many ways.
He must’ve been reading one hell of a good book to miss all that medical fuss.
