So it is against the law to dump batteries in your bins? That is what this article says, but I don't think it's right. This is about requiring businesses to accept spent batteries. The law does not apply to households.

But the article poses obvious questions. If it was law, how would they stop householders putting batteries in their bins? Would they employ legions of "battery detectors" who routinely monitored dustbins, with special stickers that must be affixed to them before they can be emptied?

We shouldn't ask. That is just mad enough for it to happen – more "green jobs" in the making.
